Changing phones with Verizon Wireless/CDMA carriers?

I know that Verizon doesn't use SIM cards. I'd guess that Sprint doesn't either.

Let's say, I'm a current Verizon customer and I buy a second-hand Verizon branded phone from someone on Craigslist.

How do I switch my service to the newer phone?

What if I buy an unbranded Blackberry like this one on the web, and I'm a Verizon or Sprint customer:

For VZW:::

For something so simple there is no need to cal customer service. To activate the newly purchased phone. You turn off your old phone and dial from the new phone- *228, in the automated system you will chose option 3 which will change the ESN for your phone, it will ask you for your phone , and the phone will activate.

You can also change your ESN online on your MyVerizon account. On the right hand side of your page, click on the hyperlink that says 'activate a phone'-- enter in the new ESN, after you do that, dial from the new phone *228 choose option 1 so the phone will activate.

If all fails and you are having serious problems changing the phone- call customer care @ 1.800.922.0204 and have them change it there. This should be your last resort as you can do it yourself. We will begin charging $10 for ESN changes very soon.Changing phones with Verizon Wireless/CDMA carriers?
Call customer service and they will ask you for the numbers that are behind the battery SD I think it what they are call and they will have the check to make sure the phone is valid like if the person you bought it from doesn't have a past due balance or something like that and they will switch your service from one phone to the other. Really simple and doesn't take long at all. I did that myself and have Sprint service.

Pretty simple and painless, you can also do this online by logging into sprint and chatting with someone at customer care online.Changing phones with Verizon Wireless/CDMA carriers?
Call Verizon and let them know that you are switching phones and to deactivate your old ESN and to activate the new ESN and have all your personal information ready to provide in case you are asked for anything.
